Today we watched how to cook the 4 main types of eggs. Scrambled, poached, sunny side up, and omelette's. I've got a new technique for how to make an omelette whisk everything in the pan and slam it to the edge of the pan. Very effective, you don't get the flap to add filling but you add the filing just before you slam in into the edge. Creating a half-moon shape and as the teacher explained it needs to be moist and wet in the middle and with just the yellow colour. Class two we took a test discussing the advantages and disadvantages of the two systems which are apart of the apprenticeship, school and work, as well as discussing the lady who's name is on the building. Hannah Arendt. Last class of the day we discussed potatoes, again, i had no idea that there were so many types of potatoe dishes. It was quite nice we got out early due to a prior appointment by the teacher. Putting a spud in his potato party.

Back at school
First test in nutrition, definitely tanked that one but I've got a book to take home which should help. "Der Junge Koch" all these new nutrition words are quite difficult to comprehend at the current time.

Day 1 at work
First day at work! Bit of a disorganized day but I got a quick tour around, saw the menu and a break down of all the items. The other apprentice and I got to make ravioli dough and fill it with a smoked fish filling. After that we cleaned up our zone and proceeded to check the dates and quality of the food in the walk in and reach in fridges. Sadly throwing out a large amount of expired and food that had gone off.

Day 7
Today we cooked potatoes, it's been a very starchy first 2 weeks. Potatoes with a bit of heavy cream and milk binding together to create something like mashed potatoes. Mixed in with some steamed carrots, celery root and leaks. Very tasty! After this more math and we received the results of our first quiz. I scored under 50% but had about one full lecture before we had the exam. The exam was on work ethics and what rights we as apprentices have. Frau Billings teaches both. After this it was a lesson in nutrition which is proving to be my most difficult subject so far. He has us do a lot of paperwork, and a lot of the words are new to me but it is interesting and he did say he would not be giving us homework ever which is nice. Sometimes it seems the teachers are as glad to get out of there as the students, we all thought we had Herr Billings for 4hours and I think to his relief and ours we found out it was only 2.
Day 6
Pretty easy day today lots of mathematical equations. I have to remember all of this from around 15 years back, and I'm still not sure it will ever be relevant outside of the classroom. But it's fun and interesting all the same. Then on to some baking we made some Plätzchen little cookies in German. My group was a bit ridiculous, I'm getting the perfectionist and the guy that does not give a fuck. All we gotta do is read and go slowly and make sure we follow the recipe but no, let's go slap it all together boom boom! And naturally the cookies were not entirely proper, the egg white needs to be whipped super fast and for a short time. Not long on low.

Day 4
Today we had our homeroom teacher for most of the day, going over the rights and regulations in regards to apprentices. As well as going to a new class were we began talking about cell bonds. Depending on age there are naturally different working restrictions. Going on we had sport for about an hour and a half playing a full court game of basketball. After that is was back to homeroom for the rest of the day to study up on rules and regulations regarding underage and of age apprentices.
